At Silvaris, our built-in Silvaris Complete Logistics team is involved from the time an order is placed until the load is delivered. That includes keeping communication open, checking in along the way and responding quickly when plans change so customers aren’t left chasing updates or solving transportation problems on their own.
Why Loads Actually Run Late
With a broker in the middle, the most common problems are really mundane: “Can’t reach the driver.” “Can’t reach the carrier.” Sometimes a driver backs out of a load after it’s already booked, and nobody finds out until someone calls to confirm pickup, because the broker never passed that along in the first place. Other times it’s a vague reason with no real follow-up behind it, a family emergency, a mechanical failure, something that sounds reasonable enough that nobody pushes for more detail.
None of this is unusual. What’s unique in our line of business is someone catching it early enough to actually do something about it. That’s exactly where a broker’s incentives stop lining up with the customer’s. Once a load is booked, a broker has already done their job as far as they’re concerned. Whatever happens between booking and delivery is the carrier’s problem to manage, not something the broker is actively watching.
How We Catch Problems Before They Become a Problem
It’s simple. We’re proactive about it. A carrier books the load and gets a rate confirmation with the pickup address. Every load booked for pickup that day gets an automated check at 1 p.m. PST asking the carrier to confirm it’s loaded and rolling as scheduled. If there’s no response, we follow up again within 24 hours by phone rather than assuming everything’s fine. If a carrier goes quiet on the scheduled delivery date, our team calls to check status directly.
That removes the extra links in the chain that come with a broker relationship. No chasing down secondhand information, no guessing what to tell a customer because we don’t actually know either. There’s no game of telephone between a broker and a carrier, because there’s no broker. We have direct access to the carrier, and the customer has direct access to us, which means the answer to “where’s my load” is never more than one phone call away.
A Real Example
Cross-border orders don’t faze us because we’ve been doing this so long. In fact, earlier this year, when new tariffs were applied with very little notice, our team reacted within the hour and issued a stop on all trucks at the border to make sure nothing crossed before the new tariffs took effect. That one decision kept an unexpected cost from ever landing on a customer’s invoice.
That’s the kind of customer service that only happens when someone’s actually tracking a situation as it unfolds. A broker relationship doesn’t have anyone positioned to make that call in the moment. We do, because that’s the entire reason Silvaris Complete Logistics exists.
